Aci Trezza is a picturesque fishing village near Catania, famous for the iconic Cyclopean Isles: eight massive basaltic sea stacks which, according to Homeric legend, were hurled by Polyphemus at Ulysses. In front of the village lies Lachea Island, a natural reserve and archaeological site. In 1948, Aci Trezza was the set for Luchino Visconti’s film “La terra trema”, starring local fishermen as actors. The village is also known for the festival of Saint John the Baptist, which includes the traditional "pantomime of the swordfish", a unique popular performance in Sicily.
