La Playa of Catania is a long sandy beach stretching for about 18 km along the city’s southern coast. Unlike the surrounding lava coasts, it features fine golden sand and shallow waters. The beach is lined with many equipped lidos, but also offers large free sections and nature areas, such as the Boschetto della Playa and the Oasi del Simeto Nature Reserve, established in 1984. These natural areas feature fossil dunes and protected wildlife and are open for visitors and walks.
